Bangkok - pre-travel post
Bangkok is, as far as I can see, a bustling city with plenty of things to hate and enjoy. The capital city of Thailand was the cheapest place to fly to, and we like to save where we can. The shopping is highly recommended, as is Khao San Road for drinks (though apparently this may set you back a bit).
Food
We shall be sticking to a strict street-food diet, at 30THB a meal, I'll eat lizards, locusts and llamas without a second thought. Restaurant meals are far pricier, at around 850THB.
Rooms
Beds start at 100THB, there are hundreds of hostels to choose from, though the nicer ones may cost you closer to 675THB.
Things To See
Note: This isn't a comprehensive list, this is just what we think is interesting.
There seems to be a lot of temples, everywhere in South East Asia, so visits need to be kept under control. We are not going to see every temple, and nor do we want to. Therefore a lot of temples have been cut from these lists.
Wat Pho - The residence of the famous reclining buddha statue. Well, this one says it's famous, so it's got to be good... Right? (100THB entry fee)
Lumpini Park - A large central park where you can hire rowing boats. Sure, Dave and I can row to the centre of the lake and read each other poetry before promptly falling into said like (just like in Bridget Jones) because we are absolutely rat-arsed. Don't judge it'll be the first few days, and we won't resist celebrating.
Jim Thompsons' House - The home of a silk merchant who disappeared under mysterious circumstances that has now become and informative museum of Thai life. (150THB entry fee)
Patravadi - A theatre on a river. Because theatre has grown a bit old on us with the new fangled cinemas and VHS tapes, they put it on a river to buy people back from modern life, and we are sold.
Chinatown - Visit the flower markets.
