Chiang Khong - pre-travel post

We hope to travel to Chiang Khong from Chiang Mai to visit some of the waterfalls nearby, there seems to be quite a lot, so here's a few (not sure if all the photos are accurate).
Although we are travelling out from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong and back (due to new years eve timing) most people would probably travel to Chiang Khong on their way to Huoay Xai in Laos.

H'mong Waterfall

Just behind the H’mong village is a small path leading through the jungle on mountainous terrain, to a waterfall with a pool to swim in too! Some say take a guide, others don't - it's up to you. The information on this waterfall available is a bit confusing, so hopefully I can update it better when I'm actually out there.

Huoay Kwa, Huoay Sai Waterfalls

Just 4 km direction Chiang Saen a small road turns left into the mountains. After a while the paved road will become a dirt road. Follow the main track till the river and pass the stream over some stones. About 170 meters upwards is the Huoay Kwa waterfall with a small pool for swimming.
To reach the Huoay Sai waterfall one passes after the river crossing a banana field, then turns to the right and follows the small path. But this fall is not easy to reach since the track is not cut free.

Travelling Twats

Some say he’s half man half fish, others say he’s more of a seventy/thirty split. Either way he’s a fishy bastard.
